The Big Picture is really, really big.

For a long time now, I’ve been waiting.

Waiting for the official announcement from the scientists, you know. The confirmation.

That this little planet we’re on is just like one of those pieces of an atom. Probably a quark or a nucleon or something even smaller. And the sun is like an electron, circling the neuron or proton at the middle of our Milky Way galaxy. And it’s all part of some element – our universe is some really cool chemistry building block (or maybe a molecule?) for another universe, which in turn is a building block for another.

One of those hall of mirrors things. Just keeps going and going and going.

It’s not my unique idea, either. This idea’s been floating around for a long time.

The worst part of it is that it puts nuclear bombs in an entirely new light. To make one of those ya gotta do nasty things to an atom. And if an atom is really a universe like ours, the ethical implications are huge.

But I haven’t seen this theory confirmed anywhere yet.

And so I wait.

You TOTALLY need to read “Death From the Skies” by Phil Plait. I’ve never read anything that made the really, really BIG picture so clear.
